CTDOT I-91 / I-691 Interchange
The interchange between these three major routes carries approximately 195,000 vehicles per day and experiences low levels of service during peak hours. We worked on multiple aspects of this project, including design exception writing, baseline modifications, ramp modifications, profile modifications, custom grading and roadway templates, and superelevation calculations.
Central Florida Expressway Authority, SR 429
This project consisted of widening 6 miles of the SR 429 expressway to provide an additional general use lane in each direction and an additional auxiliary lane in each direction from Florida’s Turnpike to west road in Orange County, Florida. Steve worked on assisting the intelligent transportation system and signing and pavement markings group with preparing signing and pavement marking plans and intelligent transportation system cross sections.
Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public works
The city of Miami was improving public transit by adding a Bus Express Rapid Transit network (BRT) with the plan to transition the system to a light rail once the system was properly utilized. The design had to accommodate both the current bus traffic and the future rail simultaneously to reduce the cost of the rail upgrade. Steve was responsible for the roadway design, including 3D modeling, cross sections, alignments, profiles, and maintenance-of-traffic elements.
Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority, South Selmon Expressway
The Tampa safety design build project was to widen the inside shoulders and install concrete median barriers on the South Selmon expressway. The design involved filing and piping the existing median and ensuring the widened shoulders would accommodate increasing the capacity to six lanes within two years. Steve was responsible for the full existing and proposed 3D models, cutting cross sections, calculating quantities, preparing the specifications package, setting the alignments and profile grade lines, and preparing and labeling the roadway plan sheets.
